Siddaramaiah Gets Finance
After Congress’s thumping victory in Karnataka elections, finally portfolios were assigned to 34 ministers in the state cabinet. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot approved the list on Monday.
Siddaramaiah Keeps Finance Portfolio
In the state cabinet, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah kept finance department and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar got irrigation and Bengaluru City development departments. Other than finanace portfolio, Siddaramaiah also has cabinet affairs, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Information Technology and Biotechnology, and Infrastructure Development. The Bengaluru City development portfolio held by Deputy CM D K Shivakumar is also of great importance as Bengaluru is the highest reveue generator in the state.
Other portfolios
Senior leader M B Patil, got Industries, which is also an important ministry in the state. Another main key portfolio Energy is held by Congress veteran and Siddaramaiah associate K J George. Lakshmi Hebbalkar, has got Women and Child Development Ministry, apart from Department for Disabled and Senior Citizens Development. Other than that health and Family Welfare is given to Dinesh Gundu Rao.
Why announcement delayed?
The portfolio of the 34 ministers were announced after much delay due to the resentment of senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy as he was given the transport portfolio. Reddy was unwilling to accept the portfolio as he was Transport Minister for four years.
