Manipur has been plagued by massive violence, resulting in a tragic human catastrophe. Over 150 people have been killed, and many others have been forced to flee. The heinous events that have occurred throughout this time are a disgrace to humanity. In the middle of this disarray, the state government is facing severe claims. Various concerns have also been expressed concerning the underlying causes of the rampant violence in Manipur. The inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category has long been sought. The Meitei Association petitioned the Manipur High Court.According to the petition, the Meitei people was recognised as a Scheduled Tribe prior to India’s union in 1949, but this classification was later lost. They contended that the Meitei community should be granted tribal status in order to preserve their ancestors’ land, customs, culture, and language. On April 14, 2023, the Manipur High Court issued its decision in this case, ordering the state administration to respond within four weeks.
