On Thursday, with the arrival of the monsoon in Kerala, parts of the state experienced isolated heavy rainfall, prompting the state to declare a yellow alert in nine districts and an orange alert in one.
For the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Kozhikode district.
An orange alert indicates very heavy rains ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm, while a yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall ranging from 6cm to 11 cm.

In fact, the IMD has predicted above-average rainfall in Kerala this monsoon season.
Warnings have been issued in coastal areas since last week, urging fishermen not to venture out to sea.
In addition, thunderstorms and lightning warnings were issued during the day in various districts after the IMD declared the onset of the monsoon in Kerala.
According to a KSDMA release, a thunderstorm with light to moderate rainfall and gusty wind speed reaching 40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts and light rainfall is likely at one or two places in Kasaragod district of Kerala.
