President Droupadi Murmu Calls for Enhanced Research Focus and International Collaboration at University of Madras

President Murmu stressed the university’s role in developing solutions for the nation’s and the world’s challenges, urging it to lead in providing learning-based answers.

President Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from August 5 to August 8 brought attention to the need for advanced research, interdisciplinary studies, and global partnerships at the University of Madras. On Sunday, President Murmu received a guard of honour at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai as part of her visit.

Addressing the 165th convocation of the University of Madras, President Murmu emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering research and academic excellence. She urged the institution to expand its investment in cutting-edge research, promote interdisciplinary learning, and foster international collaborations.

President Murmu stressed the university’s role in developing solutions for the nation’s and the world’s challenges, urging it to lead in providing learning-based answers.

Recognizing the University of Madras as a beacon of gender equality, President Murmu noted that investing in girls’ education translates to advancing the nation’s progress.

Accompanied by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi, President Murmu received her honorary role on stage during the event.

Governor Ravi acknowledged the transformative phase India is experiencing, highlighting that the country has transitioned from being perceived as a marginalized developing nation to becoming an integral player on the global stage.

President Murmu’s itinerary also includes inaugurating the Linear Accelerator at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry on August 7. Additionally, she will virtually inaugurate a 50-bed hospital in Villianur under the National AYUSH Mission and attend a civic reception hosted by the Government of Puducherry in her honor.

On the final day of her visit, August 8, President Murmu will visit ‘Matrimandir’ in Auroville, engage with a city exhibition, and inaugurate a conference themed ‘Aspiring for Supermind in the City of Consciousness’.
