Congress leader and former MP, Rahul Gandhi will file an appeal in the Surat session court against his conviction in the defamation case. In his appeal, the former president of the Congress requested that the session’s court remove the magistrate’s decision finding him guilty of defamation. Additionally, he requested a temporary stay of the judgment until the dispute was resolved.

Rahul Gandhi was given bail, while the Lok Sabha secretariat quickly suspended his sentence after 30 days to allow him to appeal the ruling. Leaders of the opposition questioned the “bullet train” pace at which the measures against him were implemented.

Rahul Gandhi convicted over his 2019 remark

Earlier, Gujarat Court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to a 2-year prison on his ‘all thieves Modi’ remark. This remark was made by the congress leader in the year 2019. Gujarat State BJP leader, Purnesh Modi filed a case against this as according to him, this remark was demeaning OBC class.

He is suspended from the Lok Sabha and elections will be held in the Wayanad constituency. Mr. Gandhi was an earlier MP from the same constituency. He is further not allowed to contest elections for the next eight years. In addition to this, he was recently asked to vacate his bungalow.

Mr. Gandhi still going to fight in court

Rahul’s lawyer has stated that the court’s proceedings were “flawed” from the very start of this case. He added that PM Modi should have been the one who files the case and not Purnesh as the right target was PM.
