Anmol Gagan Maan, the Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs, lay the foundation stone for numerous projects totaling Rs 15.5 crore today in Ferozepur district, marking a huge development for promoting tourism.
Speaking to the journalists at the Saragarhi Memorial, Maan said that the state government would improve the memorials as part of the broad “Anglo-Sikh War Circuit” project.
Maan announced the upgrade and renovation of the Ferozeshah Anglo-Sikh War Memorial, at an estimated cost of Rs 9.98 crore, highlighting the efforts of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. She also highlighted the plans for the construction of other memorials, such as Saragarhi (where an estimated museum will cost Rs 1.70 crore), Mudki (Rs 98.95 lakh), Sabraon (Rs 82.89 lakh), Mishriwal (Rs 23.36 lakh), Ferozeshah (Rs 70.44 lakh), and Aliwal in Ludhiana.
Maan began the laying of the foundation stone for the museum that will be built at the Saragarhi memorial during the event.
“Our focus is on transforming historical sites into compelling tourist destinations,” said Maan. “Numerous Punjabis gave their all for their country. It is our responsibility to protect and honour these monuments. By improving these historic sites, we hope to teach the next generation about these locations and the sacrifices made by our martyrs, the minister continued.
In keeping with the colourful Basant festival taking place in the state, Maan also announced a cash award of Rs 10 lakh for kite-flying competitions.
Prior to the occasion, the Cabinet Minister paid a visit to the national martyrs memorial where she honoured famous figures from India’s liberation movement such as Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev.
