Internet Adore: Ginger Cat Called ‘Mikan’ Becomes Station Master On Taiwan Metro

Dogs and cats are frequently seen roaming freely in railway stations and bus stops. A cat was recently named an honorary station master at a Taiwan Metro station, delighting animal lovers.

According to Taiwan News, the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit, a 37-station metro network that serves the Kaohsiung metropolitan area, celebrated its 15th anniversary on April 4. To commemorate the metro line’s 15th anniversary, a famous ginger cat named Mikan was raised to the rank of the honorary station master.

Notably, Mikan is well-known to both passengers and railway officials and has spent a considerable amount of time at the metro station region. Over the years, Mikan has become well-known on social media, and she now has an Instagram account with more than 59,000 followers.

Along with adorable images and videos, the profile frequently discusses the stationmaster cat’s everyday exploits. The metro station for the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery is where Mikan is frequently seen.

According to Taiwan News, Mikan is even aiming to expand her brand into product categories appropriate for a well-known influencer, such as purses, and other items.

The cat’s photos and videos have piqued the interest of internet users, who have responded in a number of ways.

This is not the first time a cat has been ‘hired’ at a train station. In 2021, a lovely moggy cat won a position as the official chief mouse catcher at a train station. According to Metro, the six-year-old cat has been named chief mouse catcher at Stourbridge Junction Station in the West Midlands.

At Kishi Station on the Kishigawa Line in Kinokawa, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, a female calico cat previously rose to popularity for holding the positions of the station master and operating officer.
