Raja Pateria, a leader in the Madhya Pradesh Congress, was detained today as a result of his divisive comments that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should “be ready to die.”

When a video showed Mr. Pateria encouraging a group of people to “murder” PM Modi in order to “save” the Constitution surfaced on Monday.

In the widely circulated video, Mr. Pateria is heard saying, “The lives of Dalits, tribal people, and other minorities are in jeopardy because Modi would abolish elections and split society based on religion, caste, and language. Prepare to assassinate Modi if the constitution is to be protected.”

A police investigation against Mr. Pateria, a former state minister, was ordered by the Madhya Pradesh government as a result of his comments.

At the Pawai police station in Panna on Monday afternoon, a charge was filed against Mr. Pateria. Mr. Pateria was taken into custody while visiting his home in the state’s Damoh district’s Hata town.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, denounced the remarks and even singled out Congressman Rahul Gandhi, stating, “The true face of people purporting to perform a Bharat Jodo Yatra is coming out.”

Raja  Pateria Arrested

“A Congress lawmaker has suggested murdering PM Narendra Modi since Congress members cannot compete with him in the field. The height of hatred is this. Congress’s true sentiments are coming to light. The legal process will play out, “In a statement, the Chief Minister stated.

Raja Pateria asserted in the same video that the term “murder” in his speech meant “loss.” The Congressman claimed to adhere to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence. He said that  that defeating Prime Minister Modi in polls is essential to protecting minorities’ rights.

The “reprehensible” remarks made by Mr. Pateria were met with outrage by the Congress.

“Totally unacceptable! Such statements should not be made about the prime minister or anybody else. Such views are denounced and condemned by the  “Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress.

There is no justification for using such rhetoric toward anyone, especially the prime minister, according to Mr. Khera.
