With barely a year until the tournament, the United States faces an uphill battle to put in place the necessary cricket infrastructure.
Because cricketing activity in most parts of the world comes to a halt during that time, England is likely to be asked to undertake a swap with the West Indies and the United States. Serious discussions are presently ongoing to host the 2024 tournament in England, Ireland, and Scotland, with the West Indies and the United States taking over in 2030. This approach may give the United States enough time to prepare for a major event like the T20 World Cup.
Major problems revolving around the US and West Indies
“There is a problem here. The current infrastructure condition in the United States is not encouraging, and it is possible that the ICC will shift the hosts for the 2024 and 2030 editions of the event. It will also allow USA Cricket to complete the infrastructure and have the house in order by 2030.
The venues will be ready in a hurry for the time being. “England has already been assigned the 2030 World Cup, and unlike other nations, they can host an event in June or July,” claims a source close to the situation.
What Atul Rai has to say regarding this
Dr. Atul Rai, the previous interim chairman of USA Cricket who is still on the board, stated last month that the current scenario in the United States will make hosting the World Cup “very difficult” because even the existing facilities are inadequate for an ICC event.
“Not really. I don’t think so. Not where we stand right now. But then again ICC has to make the final call. But with again, the oper infrastructure, nothing is going to happen. We don’t have any existing facilities so it’s up to the ICC whether they will invest money in some makeshift venue and even host some games. But it’s a very tough site facilities,e honest. The ICC has recognized that too.
