“There Hasn’t Been A Captain Like Him” Sunil Gavaskar On MS Dhoni

In the lead-up to Monday’s pivotal IPL 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has reserved high praise for MS Dhoni. Everyone’s eyes will be on Dhoni as the charming head of the Yellow Unit is recuperating from a niggle to lead CSK in their forthcoming IPL 2023 match against Virat Kohli-starrer RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Arena.

Dhoni A Champion

Champions in four releases of the money-rich association, Dhoni and Co. have landed in Bengaluru for the main Southern Derby of the new season. Perhaps of the best player throughout the entire existence of the game, Dhoni as of late recorded his 200th appearance as the head of the Chennai-based establishment in the IPL. Before CSK’s away game against RCB, batting legend Gavaskar praised the Chennai skipper and stated that Dhoni will never be a captain like him.

Sunil Gavaskar on Ms Dhoni

“Chennai Super Lords know how to escape predicaments. This has only been possible under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Captaining 200 matches is truly challenging. The burden of captaining so many games could have had an impact on his performance as well. However, Mahi is unique. He is not the same captain. There hasn’t been a chief like him and there will never be one like him ever again,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

IPL Champion

During Chennai’s previous match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Dhoni, who led CSK to all four IPL titles, made history. The 41-year-old became the first player in IPL history to lead a franchise through 200 matches. MS, who holds the record for most IPL appearances, made his IPL debut in 2008 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium.

In the lucrative league, Dhoni has participated in over 213 matches as captain. The previous Indian captain finished 5,000 runs in the IPL recently. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman is the seventh player in history to score more than 5,000 runs in the richest T20 tournament in the world. Sixth-place CSK has won two and lost two of its four matches this season under Dhoni’s leadership.
