WPL 2023: Second Consecutive Defeat for GG – UP Win By 3 Wickets

Fourth match of Womens’ IPL was another disappointment for Gujrat and this time the defeat came from UP Warriors. Half-centuries by Navgire and Harris drive UP Warriorz to a scintillating victory against Gujarat Giants.

After a disappointing commencement in the first match of the WPL 2023, Gujrat Giants were expected to cruise through the contest against UP Warriors. Nevertheless, the second clash again brought the same result for the GG. And the UPW in their campaign opener succeeded in sealing a 3-wicket victory vs GG, in Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium witnessed UP Warriors’ first victory.

UP Warriorz had a good beginning to their WPL 2023 campaign and in a thrilling encounter, they registered a narrow three-wicket victory vs Gujarat Giants. The fans in the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai were so delighted to watch the UPW chasing a target of 170 runs. The victors ended the match reaching 175/7 in 19.5 overs where Grace Harris smacked an unbeaten 59 runs out of mere 26 balls.

It was Harris who ended the match with a winning six from her bat. In her heroic knock, Harris slammed 3 maximums along with 7 fours. On the other hand, Kiran Navgire also succeeded in registering a vital half-century for UP Warriorz. She hit 53 runs off 43 balls which includes 2 sixes and 5 fours. Kim Garth has also contributed exceptionally well with five-wicket haul for Gujarat.

Batting first Gujrat’s Harleen Deol smacked a much needed forty-six runs off thirty-two balls which also included seven fours. With her, Ashleigh Gardner also contributed a 25 runs support off 19 deliveries for the team. She hammered two fours and a six and her team Gujarat posted 169 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

For UPW Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone were in good bowling form taking 2 wickets each whereas Tahlia McGrath and Anjali Sarvani bagged a dismissal each.
