The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) events in Jakarta, where they discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral relations and cooperation in various areas.

Iran originally requested to join the alliance 15 years ago. SCO follows a rigorous process of admission. In 2021, Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that they had joined the SCO as the ninth member.

"The invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the SCO-CHS was extended by the Prime Minister of India in his capacity as the current Chair of the SCO," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said in an official release.

The G20 and SCO which India presently chairs were given special consideration during the talks. In addition, PM Modi also shared information on his contacts abroad, especially those he made during his recent state visit to the US.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was founded in 2001 in Shanghai. Its initial formation included six countries - Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan - later joined by India and Pakistan in 2017.

The SCO was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan became its permanent members in 2017.

Tomar said in order to maintain the normal functioning of the food supply chain in the present conditions, there is a need for close contact and cooperation between various countries for food and nutrition security.

The SCO Foreign Ministers conference in Goa, was notable for the efforts to resolve bilateral disputes between the organization's key members as well as the multilateral organization's ambitions to enhance economic cooperation.
