The SCO summit, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, concluded with the virtual participation of the heads of state from all SCO nations.

This move of China was sternly criticised by India, as even after 15 years since the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the masterminds behind the atrocity have yet to be brought to justice.

Chinese President Xi Jinping promoted his nation's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), asserting that the infrastructure project would encourage regional commerce, investment, and collaboration, despite objections from the summit's host India.

In a statement, it said Sharif's participation in the summit illustrates the high importance that Pakistan attaches to the SCO, which is an important forum for regional security and prosperity, and enhanced engagement with the region.

The rotational presidency remains with India until September 2023.

On the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand on September 16, PM Modi said "Today's era isn't of war" while emphasizing the need to find ways to address the problems of food, fuel security, and fertilizers.
