PM Narendra Modi: A One Man Show

PM Narendra Modi: oozed joyous energy at his campaign rallies across Gujarat, declaring his faith in the “pro-incumbency” strategy. His exhortations were overwhelmingly endorsed by Gujarat’s voters on Thursday.

The size of the BJP triumph, which saw them take 156 seats and shatter the state for the Congress after 37 years, is evidence of Modi’s dominance and electoral skill.

But Gujarat has proven them incorrect by fostering an atmosphere that is pro-incumbency as a result of its consistent support for the BJP.

Despite having governed Gujarat for almost to 30 years, the BJP’s historic win margin in the state also indicates that Modi’s support has consolidated there, with no signs of voter weariness.

Since he was elected chief minister of Gujarat in 2002, not long after the state had its deadliest earthquake in history, he has played a significant role in the state’s politics.

During one of his rallies in Surendranagar, Modi remarked, “Anti-incumbency is…often addressed by political experts and detractors who presume that people will vote against the existing government.”

The party continues to praise Modi’s accomplishments to support its claim that a crisis may be used as an opportunity. Candidates and campaigners for the BJP recalled his lengthy career at meetings and rallies, initially as the creator of the “Gujarat model” of growth and later for his tough, resolute national leadership that has brought honour to the nation.

A senior BJP official explained how Modi has developed a sense of “bharosa (trust)” among the people by keeping his promises over the years.

“If Modi plans a statue (Statue of Unity), it has to be the tallest in the world, the same goes for the Gujarat stadium with the maximum seating capacity in the world, and now there’s the pledge to develop infrastructure to host the 2036 Olympics,” the official said.

Thanks to the top-notch sports complex built in Ahmedabad, the state recently hosted the National Games.
