China’s first indigenously constructed passenger aircraft, the C919, took off on its first commercial flight on Sunday, marking the country’s official entry into the civil aviation industry in an effort to compete with Western rivals such as Boeing and Airbus.

China Eastern Airlines operates the first commercial flight of the C919 from Shanghai to Beijing.

The plane was carrying 160 passengers. The flight from Shanghai to Beijing took roughly two hours and twenty-five minutes.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) built the C919, which was granted a type certificate by the Civil Aviation Administration of China in September.

The C919 has been tested in a variety of adverse natural settings such as high temperature, high humidity, severe cold, gusts, and freezing.

Its safety, dependability, and environmental protection performance have all been thoroughly evaluated.

The first C919 aircraft was delivered to its first customer, China Eastern Airlines, on December 9, 2022.

According to the report, the C919 airliner completed its 100-hour aircraft validation flying process after delivery, thoroughly validating its reliability for commercial operation.

The Shanghai Science and Technology Commission said, “The C919 has secured 1,035 orders from 32 clients by the end of 2022”.

The officials said, “The arrival of Chinese aircraft might lessen dependency on Boeing and Airbus, as well as compete with them in the worldwide civil aviation market”.
