Earthquake Of 6.2 Magnitude Found Off The Coast Of New Zealand

There was no immediate tsunami warning and no damage was reported on New Zealand’s mainland

On Wednesday, the US Geological Survey detected a 6.2-magnitude earthquake off New Zealand’s southern coast, near the completely uninhabited Auckland Islands.

According to New Zealand’s GeoNet monitoring agency, the epicentre was 33 kilometres (21 miles) below the earth’s surface. There was no immediate tsunami warning and no damage was reported on New Zealand’s mainland.

A city council representative in Invercargill, the nearest significant city, claimed there had been no reports of the earthquake being felt or infrastructure damage.
