EU Must Politely Listen To India And The Global South And Refrain From Lecturing Them

Additionally, the EU must comprehend that India is not a western nation. India’s values and culture are unique. India has always been a leader in independent thought without having any allies.

Manipur

Last week, the Manipur problem in India was discussed in the EU parliament. Sincere to God, 99.9% of EU lawmakers won’t be able to locate Manipur on a map. Condescending sermons like this won’t be well received in India. India’s internal problem is Manipur. It is obvious that India has not meddled in EU matters, but the EU continues to treat others with prejudice and a racialized colonial and imperial prism.

This will make it more difficult to maintain constant tension with China and to maintain bilateral relations and trade cooperation with a significant emerging giant like India. Indians believe the EU should avoid interfering in other countries’ internal issues on a bilateral level since doing so will only further isolate the EU in the Global South.

Additionally, the EU must comprehend that India is not a western nation. India’s values and culture are unique. India has always been a leader in independent thought without having any allies. India will not support anyone’s cause and will stand up for itself, thus trying to influence it with tired themes like fading democracy, minorities’ rights, and religious freedom won’t be effective. India is far too powerful for this folly and rubbish about regime change.

The world has evolved; today, India is the largest democracy in the world and has a population of 1.4 billion people, 2.5 times that of the EU. India is the world’s fastest expanding economy, a major digital powerhouse, a military power, and a nuclear power all on its own, without being a puppet to anyone like many EU states are to Washington, despite its immense variety. No nation is flawless; each has its own problems. However, these lectures and sermons are ineffective when the EU’s own house is on fire due to conflicts, inflation, racism, rising crime, recession, rising poverty, etc.
With China in mind, it is crucial to maintain India-EU relations for long-term benefits. Most EU citizens lack basic knowledge of India and the Global South. Instead of complaining arrogantly about the EU’s lack of support for Ukraine, the EU should listen to the Global South first with compassion and respect.
