On the sidelines of the Russia-Ukrain war, the Russian government anticipates a visit from Chinese premier Xi Jinping in the days to come.
As per the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs lately, advance bilateral interstate ties will be strengthened through joint efforts from Russia and China. The ministry statement says that Russian Prez Vladimir Putin expects a government visit from Chinese leader Xi Jinping in the coming days of spring. Now the Russian authorities are proceeding with the understanding that this is going to be the central event in the bilateral relationship of the year 2023.
If happened this would be the second in-person meeting between Putin and Xi since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022. This certainly will signal deepening ties between the two mega-states. Russia is, in fact, thankful of both the south Asian countries – India and China who by continuing to maintain trade with Russia kept the Russian economy afloat whereas many countries opposed its invasion and have sanctioned Russia.
This significant visit has not yet been confirmed by Chinese government has not yet confirmed Xi Jinping’s visit. Mao Ning, the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says in a statement to the media that Russia and China maintain close cooperation at many levels for promoting the development of bilateral relations and for contributing to the support of development and peace around the world.
