UK-China honeymoon is over, says Sunak

United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak states that “Golden Era” Of UK-China Ties is now over. Clarifying his statement, Sunak said that China is now seen posing a systemic challenge against the interests and values of Britain.

Rishi Sunak is known for his non-aligned thinking with no biases against any country. His saying that Britain simply cannot ignore significance of China in world affairs, is insinuating towards being too attentive towards the British interests.

The British PM has a warning sound saying that China has been now posing a “systemic challenge” to the United Kingdom” interests and values”. The statement follows the condemnation of China by the UK government after a BBC journalist was beaten and arrested while he was covering Shanghai protests.

It was PM Sunak’s first major speech on foreign policy, where he pointed out that the so-called “golden era” of UK-China ties as trumpeted by former British prime minister David Cameron is now “over, with the ‘progressive’ idea that trade is going to automatically lead to political and social reform.”
