Amarinder Singh: The senior leader has been given a greater responsibility by the BJP’s leadership months after former Punjab joined the party on September 19, 2022.

He was also an elected member of the Legislative Assembly from Patiala and president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He had earlier served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. His father was the last Maharaja of Patiala State. He has also served in the Indian Army from 1963 to 1966.

Reportedly, Former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh is all set to take charge as Governor of Maharashtra.
According to the information retrieved he may become the next Governor of Maharashtra. There has been a lot of political discussion in Punjab regarding this decision.

Notably, Captain also merged his newly formed party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with BJP, after huge performance disappointment in Punjab Assembly elections.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari Stepping Down

The current Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari, 80, has expressed his desire to step down from the post.

Koshyari, who has faced Opposition criticism and demands for his resignation over various issues throughout his tenure, said on Monday that he had conveyed his desire to step down to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“During the recent visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to Mumbai, I have conveyed to him my desire to be discharged of all political responsibilities and to spend the remainder of my life in reading, writing and other activities. I have always received love and affection from the Hon’ble Prime Minister and I hope to receive the same in this regard,” Koshyari said in a statement released by Raj Bhavan.

Reportedly, former congress leader has good relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to which he has also been included in the 83-member national executive of the BJP.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was expected to hold a rally in Patiala on January 29. Full preparations were made in this regard and it was anticipated that Captain Amarinder Singh will boast his strength again in Punjab through this rally.

Through this rally, BJP wanted to blow the trumpet of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Punjab. However, this rally was suddenly postponed due to BJP’s tussle in Patiala after, which the discussion has gained momentum that something is brewing in the BJP regarding the Captain.
