Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan has a cheeky reply to Twitter that seems to be giving out free Blue Ticks to users with over one million followers. On April 20, Mr. Bachchan was one of the first prominent Twitter users in India to pay the 900 rupees per month Blue subscription fee to keep the coveted Blue badge on his profile. But over the weekend, the Elon Musk-owned platform made a U-turn, and the actor thinks his money was wasted because he has over 48 million (or four crores) followers. Bachchan thanked Elon Musk after receiving the green light, nearly two days after receiving the Twitter Blue subscription. The actor also sent a humorous tweet to the new Twitter owner, evoking a Hindi song.
Be that as it may, Twitter has now begun including Blue Tick profiles with north of 1,000,000 supporters, strangely. It could be because a lot of famous people don’t want to pay for a Twitter Blue subscription, which gives them access to exclusive features like long-form tweets and an edit/undo button. The idea of paying for the blue tick did not appeal to a lot of Indian celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, Virat Kohli, and Shah Rukh Khan, who all lost the blue tick. On the platform, a trend called “Block the Blue” is taking off.
While many users are dissatisfied with the free badge, Bachchan is unhappy with having to pay for the blue tick. Musk previously stated that he is responsible for paying for the Twitter Blue subscriptions of Stephen King and LeBron James. King and other people have asked Musk to donate the $8 to charity instead of paying for the subscription. “I think Mr. Musk should give my blue check to charity,” the author of IT and the Shinning stated.
