Despite disengagement from the Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso, Gogra (PP-17A) and Hot Springs (PP-15), the Indian and Chinese armies continue to maintain thousands of troops and equipment along the LAC.

In the course of the past three years, discussions have yielded advancements in addressing five to six areas of tension in eastern Ladakh between India and China, according to S Jaishankar.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met the Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Political Bureau and Director of the Office of the CPC Foreign Affairs Commission, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the BRICS NSAs’ Meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

He said, “The present downturn in our ties was not our creation…It was created by China, it was created by China ..violating two agreements of 1993 and 1996 and moving forces to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in violation of those agreements.”

The 27th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China border affairs was held in-person in New Delhi, the external affairs ministry said in a statement.

Jaishankar used the meeting to push India’s stance for the early resolution of the military standoff in the Ladakh sector of the LAC, which has entered its fourth year...
