‘Chaiwale ki Economy on the fifth rank’ : PM Modi’s jibe

Taking a veiled jibe at former PM Manmohan Singh, PM Modi said so remarkably over the growth of Indian economy

Taking a veiled jibe at former PM Manmohan Singh, PM Modi said so remarkably over the growth of Indian economy.

As a part of the campaign for the upcoming State Assembly elections in early December PM Modi said so addressing a public rally in the poll-bound Gujarat’s Rajkot city.

Targeting his predecessor Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke in a veiled attack over the growth of the Indian economy. He pointed out saying the country climbed up by one position to now reaching to the tenth spot. He said this happened despite a renowned economist being the prime minister of the country in the Congress-led government for 10 years till 2014.

Modi did not hesitate calling himself a humble ‘chaiwala’ and said that the Indian economy has become the 5th largest in the world in last 8 years since he assumed the office of the Prime Minister in the year 2014.

Addressing a public rally in poll-bound Gujarat’s Rajkot as a part of the BJP campaign for the upcoming State Assembly elections in early December, Prime Minister Modi compared his performance with former PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure of ten years.

“Before Modi assumed the office of the PM in the year 2014, Congress  party was in power for ten years. Even ten years ago when Congress party first came to power in 2004, a renowned economist was India’s prime minister and the Indian economy then ranked eleventh in the world,” PM Modi stated.

Adding to what he is pointing out, he continued, “During the subsequent years, everything they did, India’s economy remained the tenth largest. Thus, it took 10 years for India to become number ten from number eleven.”

PM Modi clarified that he never claimed to be an economics expert or some economist but he always believes in the strength of the people of India.
