Dr. S Jaishankar Discusses Indo-Pacific, And Ukraine War With His 8 Counterparts

Jaishankar arrived in Sweden on Friday after speaking at the 6th Indian Ocean Conference in Bangladesh

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his counterparts from France, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania to address a number of issues, including the Indo-Pacific and the Ukraine crisis.

Jaishankar is in Sweden for a three-day visit to attend the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF). On Saturday he met with his counterparts on the sidelines of the EIPMF.

Dr. S Jaishankar tweeted, “Glad to meet Catherine Colonna of France. Share her enthusiasm on making PM @narendramodi’s visit for the Bastille Day a success. Exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific and G20”, through his official Twitter handle.

On July 14, Prime Minister Modi will be the honored guest at this year’s Bastille Day Parade. French President Emmanuel Macron invited PM Modi to attend the Parade in Paris.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, an Indian contingent will march alongside their French counterparts in the parade.

Mr. Jaishankar also met with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and signed mobility and migration agreements.

Mr. Jaishankar committed to advancing bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation during his first meeting with Belgium’s Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib.

He discussed expanding bilateral and global ties with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov.

Mr. Jaishankar discussed mobility and tourism with his counterpart from Cyprus Constantinos Kombos.

“Great to meet FM of Cyprus @ckombos after his appointment. Noted the potential for greater engagement. Spoke about mobility and tourism. Also discussed our multilateral collaboration,” Mr. Jaishankar added in another tweet.

Jaishankar met with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and discussed measures to boost bilateral ties in the midst of the Ukraine conflict.

“Good meeting with FM @edgarsrinkevics of Latvia on EU-Indo-Pacific Ministerial sidelines. Spoke about strengthening our bilateral relationship and on repercussions of the Ukraine conflict. Also discussed our multilateral cooperation”, Mr. Jaishankar added in another tweet.

After his meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, he tweeted, “A good conversation on bilateral cooperation and Indo-Pacific with FM @GLandsbergis of Lithuania. Also discussed Europe’s perspectives of the world from our vantage points. Agreed to stay in touch”, through his official Twitter handle.

Jaishankar thanked his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu for facilitating Operation Ganga, an evacuation mission to bring back all the Indian people who had become stuck in Ukraine.

“Caught up with Romanian colleague FM @BogdanAurescu on EU-Indo-Pacific Ministerial sidelines. Thanked him for OperationGanga facilitation. Discussed defense and energy collaboration. Benefited from his perspectives of the region”, Mr. Jaishankar added in another tweet.
